Why Do We Celebrate Texas Independence Day?

On March 2, 1836, a group of 59 delegates gathered at Washington-on-the-Brazos and signed the Texas Declaration of Independence, officially breaking away from Mexico. This bold move led to key battles, including the Battle of the Alamo (March 6, 1836) and the Battle of San Jacinto (April 21, 1836), where General Sam Houston’s forces secured Texas' independence.

For nearly a decade, Texas stood as its own republic before joining the United States in 1845. Today, Texas Independence Day is celebrated with parades, historical reenactments, and of course—plenty of Texas pride!
